there is no more need to choose between work and play, simply sharpening the pencil enables the spinning top to whirl.

simultaneously a pencil and spinning top, ‘spincil’ by french studio ortiedesign combines both work and play. reminding one of childhood, the piece consists of a 2b graphite lead at one end that can be drawn with, while the top enables it to be spun around. the more the pencil is sharpened, the more the spinning top will whirl. the shape of ‘spincil’ was complex to manufacture – it was constructed vertically all in one piece – the object is turned by hand and therefore unable to be industrialized.
