oscar tusquets blanca revives rattan with fontal chair for expormim

born from the desire to revive the use of rattan as a noble material for the production of furniture, spanish designer oscar tusquets blanca has developed ‘fontal’. the seating object which reminds us of a traditional chair uses the age old technique of caning combining it with a new appearance which retains a lightness and charm. with this contemporary furniture piece, tusquets has substituted the classic strutting and joint wrapping with a twinning method in order to join the reeds with one another to form the seating surface, while the structural framework of the design is composed of bent rattan elements, resulting in a flexible but resistant structure.
