korean design studio PESI (possibility, essential, standpoint, interpretation) collaborates with a local cardboard manufacturing company to create ‘lumber’ — a colorful self-assembly side table collection using simple processed cardboards and ready-made PVC rivets. we worked on our design based on our motto,’ explain the designers, ‘we find new possibilities by reinterpreting an object from our point of view without losing its essentials.’ the table is named after its assembly method; long rectangular modules as the wooden lumber joined by the PVC rivets as the nails.

PESI’s objective is to find a new formative language using cardboard furniture. in order to create ‘lumber’, the designers die-cut press the cardboard, a simple production method that processes cardboard, that is then squared like a rectangular lumber and assembled with the PVC rivets. the collection consists of six various types of side tables with different dimensions where different colors and patterns can be freely printed on its surface.
