in german, spielbein describes a person standing relaxed with one leg engaged and the other relaxed. it is also the name of a seating collection by industrial designer peter otto vosding. created for small-to-midsize rooms, the modular chair has two vertical legs placed opposite to two tilted legs. by placing the slanted elements between the straight angled base of another, a bench is created; and it just so happens to represent a person crossing their legs.

‘spielbein’ takes the guessing out of selecting how much seating is needed

in general, benches are bulky and invariable in length. when the amount of seats needed is up in the air, ‘spielbien’ is an easy and elegant way of answering the question. with their own chair, guests have the ability to join the others, or should they want, take a bit of space for themselves.
