combining different techniques and creative disciplines can result in interesting projects. take austrian designer philipp aduatz‘s ‘canvas tables’ for example, a hybrid series that fuses the craftsmanship of experimental furniture with the artistic tradition of oil painting. the shapes of the objects are produced by moulding resin on a plate and their outlines are formed depending on the viscosity of the substance. the surfaces are coated with oil-based paint, meant to evoke the soft fading of a gradient that can be seen in a clear sky. after the brushstrokes have been dried, another layer is applied in the form of a special clear lacquer to protect the coloration and make the furnishings suitable for daily use. the steel legs underneath are connected with a fiberglass reinforced resin construction to the plate. the tables are on display at tent london during the london design festival 2014.
