introduced in the late nineteenth century, the director’s chair is a legendary piece of design universally associated with hollywood movies. with this in mind, as well as its practicality and lightness, french designer philippe starck has revisited this fine example of industrial design, resulting in the ‘stanley’ chair for italian manufacturer magis. with its simple lines and the elegance of its high-tech design, this new take adds a fresh lease of life and modernity into the classical piece.

philippe starck’s ’stanley’ for magis has the distinctive single scissor-cross support in fiberglass-reinforced polypropylene as well as a seat and back in an extremely technical, high-performance fabric. it is the first folding chair to have passed the most rigorous strength and ability tests on both sides of the atlantic and it is suitable for a practically infinite range of uses, both indoor and outdoor, domestic and contract.

‘the elegance of the high technology enables us to rediscover the timelessness of the director’s chair,’ comments philippe starck.
