situated 200 km north of the arctic circle in sweden, the jukkasjärvi ice hotel features a frankenstein styled art suite called, ‘it’s alive!’. designed by christian strömqvist and karl-johan ekeroth from pinpin studio, the room is constructed entirely out of snow and ice. the freezing environment mimics the laboratory of a crazy scientist, complete with mysterious gadgets, huge tesla coils, a hatch in the ceiling and a bed where the monster can come alive. offering an unusual, interactive experience, the room lets visitors decide whether they want to play the part of the monster or the scientist. influenced by the way dr frankenstein created life from dead materials with the help of lightning, pinpin studio transforms water from the torne river into the creatively designed room. the annual art symposium is similar to the duo’s previous designs, with ‘it’s alive!’ embodying a sense of playfulness and humor.
