‘for the sake of form’ the first solo exhibition of manhattan based product and furniture design studio rich brilliant willing (theo richardson, charles brill, and alexander williams, RBW) opens today at the volume gallery in chicago. drawing inspiration from the forms of air-shipping containers, RBW has taken these icons of globalization and transposed them onto icons of the home: the credenza, the coffee table, the bookshelf, side table and cabinet. the volume gallery is an event-based gallery with a specific focus on emerging contemporary american designers.

the process of abstracting the beveled edges, specifically used for fitting containers into round fuselages, and translating the forms into brass, leather, and american hardwoods reveals what RBW considers ‘the transient idea of the contemporary home.’
