drawing reference in more ways than one from the well-known flimsy wooden fruit and vegetable pallets, berlin-based designers  läufer + keichel manipulate the structural elegance of the boxes to create ‘satsuma’ for schneiderschram, a lightweight wooden chair. both the frame and legs are crafted from its sturdy wooden triangular sections, which amount to about 50% in weight savings when compared to traditional square legs. although minimal in its design, the chair required a complex production process. ‘it is a modern industrial product that evokes memories of traditional handcrafted furniture,’ explain the designers. weighing just 3.5 kilograms, the reclaimed seat is manufactured using barely any material and with the latest CNC milling technologies.
