milan-based designers at studioventotto have created ‘suppergiù’, a chair that can be transformed into a small step ladder. presented during milan design week 2014, the structure has a seat that can be divided into two, transforming it into a dual-functioning piece of furniture. this mobile component remains stable and rigid, as rotation is prevented by connecting it to the edge. when set up as a ladder, a second support point is provided by two studs that are screwed into the front legs. most of the wooden parts are made from straight rods to save time and labor costs and wanting to avoid any curvature in the backrests, they are attached to two laser cut metal elements that also divert the direction of the structural forces.
