visitors to ‘the swings’, a continuation of french-canadian studio daily tous les jours‘ 21 balançoires (swings), act collectively to create and enjoy music. the installation is based on the premise of cooperation, allowing up to 10 individuals at a time to work together in synchronicity to produce increasingly complex melodies. able to achieve more as a group than alone, ‘the swings’ utilizes music to weave together human experience.

sensors embedded within each seat detect motion and trigger notes that represent one of four musical instruments: piano, harp, vibraphone, and guitar. daily tous les jours worked in collaboration with composer radwan ghazi moumneh to make original orchestrations for the piece. ‘the swings’ is currently on a U.S. tour, and will make its debut in manhattan at the brookfield place june 10th to july 7th
