fashion entertainments is a japanese start-up company with the theme of ‘creating new ways to enjoy digitized fashion’. striving towards this goal, takt project has developed the brand’s first product, ‘FES watch’. the design is based on the idea of a neutral timepiece platform able to match well with a variety of contexts. ‘it’s something like a brand-new canvas to work on. on the other hand, the watch was not created simply to be a canvas for different patterns, but also with the idea of making a true, functioning watch. so it was given a design that accentuates that traditional form,’ says the studio.

in response, the silhouette, composed of a round dial and rectangular strap, is a shape familiar to any watch-lover. upon this elegant body, the exterior surface of electronic paper can be decorated with 24 distinct combinations of geometries that smoothly appear and then fade away from the face to give the wearer a brand new, unusual experience like none before. the effect is not merely about seeing the two-dimensional progression of figures, but witnessing the watch as we know it – a hard, fixed object – seem to morph its character or presence before our eyes. unlike the fashion of yesteryear, where you change the way you express yourself by alternating what you wear, the ‘FES watch’ modifies itself, offering a trend in motion.
