OS X Yosemite – the new apple operating system

 

 

 

at the WWDC14 event held in san francisco on june 2nd, apple announced a new operating system for its mobile devices, iOS 8 and a preview of their new operating system for laptops and desktop computers – OS X Yosemite.

 

here’s what apple had to say about the new operating system that will be available this coming fall for mac laptops and desktop computers.

 

OS X Yosemite is the next natural step in the evolution of OS X. not just because of how it looks. but because of what it empowers you to do – combined with iOS 8 the OS X Yosemite allows you to fully synch all your digital content across your computer, iPad and iPhone.

translucent toolbars
let you know there’s more to see than what’s visible in the window as you scroll. and a translucent sidebar lets you see what’s hidden behind the active window.

 

streamlined toolbars
in safari you can now access your favorite sites by clicking in the smart search field. with just one click of the tab view button, you can see the safari tabs that are open on all your devices. Maps and Calendar have been streamlined too.

a cleaner, more iconic dock
apple have simplified the appearance of the dock and its icons to provide a more consistent look and feel. this new approach to the icons gives the entire app family a more harmonious look while making each one instantly recognizable.

flat stoplights
the red, yellow, and green ‘stoplights’ in the corner of every app window now offer the functions: close, minimize, and full screen, eliminating the extra full-screen control and consolidating the window controls in one place.

fonts
in OS X Yosemite, fonts have been refined systemwide to be more legible and consistent across the mac experience. you’ll notice a fresh, new typeface in app windows, menu bars, and throughout the system.

notification center
the new today feature in notification center tells you everything you need to know now. it gives you a concise summary of the day’s upcoming events, reminders, and birthdays. it even summarizes tomorrow’s events. in addition, you’ll get quick access to important information with widgets like calendar, weather, stocks, world clock, calculator, and reminders. and you can customize what you see by adding more widgets from the mac app store.
