the booth, made out of a selection of twenty different kvadrat fabrics, is an installation for the danish textile manufacturer by london-based
designers yael mer and shay alkalay of raw edges studio, presented as part of stockholm furniture 2013. the large-scale dinesen douglas fir wood
structure is angled in a specific way to display a polychromatic curtain of 1,500 kvadrat straps. the framework was specially conceived to allow
visitors to engage with the textile samples in a more interactive way, offering them a closer look at the selection. the concept was fabricated to
recreate the scene of a picnic in an enchanted forest atmosphere, the careful layering of the bands informed by weeping willow trees,
forming an intimate, sanctuary-like space within the expansive exhibition hall.
the designers describe their project:
'wooden cabin, soft roof tiles, fish skin and picnic under a weeping willow, all mixed in a massive pot with kvadrat swatches. served within a
commercial fair with our aspiration to create a relaxing, surreal situation but also very warm welcoming.'
