tukaani by lincoln kayiwa

finding inspiration in the toucan bird’s bill, designer lincoln kayiwa has designed the sterling silver tukaani, a hand made eating device for asian food consumers in the west. held much like traditional chopsticks, the tukaani is made from one continuous piece of silver which is looped around to form the tong-like device. its matte surface and taut movement allows the user to have more control over the motion of the eating tool so that more food ends up in your mouth than in your lap. the loop which is a key element to the function of the design, can also be used to hang, store and display the tukaani.
