vivien muller is a paris-based industrial designer. he first came to our attention in 2007
with his ‘octocube’ radiator – a shortlisted entry in the designboom & bisque radiators
competition ‘radical radiators’. since then he has designed the solar powered charging
hub ‘photon synthese’ and the contemporary quill ‘plume’.

photon synthese

is a metalic bonsai tree – that uses photovoltaic panels to charge mobile devices such as
cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras etc. the modular nature of the design allows the
user to model the tree as they prefer.

this fountain pen is a contemporary take on the quill, which uses standard ink cartridges.

(there is only one fist prize, and designboom usually asks renown professionals to help us to promote talent.
in addition to the awarded designs, we do feel that almost all deserve our attention, that is why we publish
the best 100-200 entries too.)
