tired of unpleasant visuals created by tangled hairdryers every day, WV design studio proposes a twist to. the final result is a hairdryer that showcases different geometries and functions within the same mechanism.

the hairdryer project is titled ‘design for us: re-design’

at first, WV design broke down a used hairdryer and reclaimed its functional parts. these include electric wires, motors, fan, insulation, buttons, switches, and wires. for example, what mostly plagued our eyes was the 1.5 meter long wire that triggered visual stress. hence, the team put a cradle that exposes the wire only when needed for use, creating a twofold feature. one can keep the wire wrapped when unused, and doesn’t need to hide it every time they store the hairdryer.

the overall shape merges basic and narrow rectangles with a circle

the shape of the hairdryer combines a basic rectangle, circle, and narrow rectangle which could be represented by a line. by doing so, the designers attempted to associate a two-dimensional graphic image with the different parts. ‘…the view of the hairdryer from various angles blended with the environment. this intention is directly revealed in the shape of the lines seen in the cradle. in the end, it’s based on our idea that people will be willing to spend more money, sympathetic to the need for cradles’.
