for the ‘melt up furniture collection,’ yasuhiro suzuki has developed his own molding technique using polyester fiber. the project explores the potential of the synthetic material by heating it up to temperatures that allow it to melt around frameworks. afterwards, the formations remain untouched, as they are given time to cool and harden. these results juxtapose contrasting concepts of natural textures and artificial substances. as opposed to fully shaping something and then dematerializing areas from its solid state, the amount of fibers composing its tactile surfaces remains the same as it goes through creative process. compared to current resin molding mechanisms the following differences can be seen. first, there is no borderline between the cloth and resin. second, the textile can be wrapped around something to mold so it is easy to shape. thus, the amount of coats can be altered to change the volume of the final product.

the moss shelf of the collection is available in various sizes that comply with any space. the cavity is untempered and soft, ensuring that it does not hurt or damage everyday objects placed within. the green exterior pattern is enhanced as it captures light to emphasize the depths of its crevasses and pockets of air. this gives the viewer the impression that the object is shifting from being industrial towards something that can be seen within nature.

coral stool

the coral stool uses no molds or interior frame due to the fact that its construction only requires knit fibers. the textile is wrapped around a cylinder on all sides to be treated and stiffened with the exception of the top surface. here, the plane of interwoven circular rings remains plush to act as a cushion for sitting while the curved exterior provides a supportive structure.
