yota kakuda has completed the interior of a bakery in japan using colored acrylic panels.
located in tokyo’s adachi district, the small retail outlet is part of an expanding chain of similar shops that sell cheese tarts. inside the store, an acrylic counter presents a colored gradient of red, orange, yellow, and pink to passersby. the surface uses a technique that produces color gradation, with the acrylic components seamlessly bonded together.

the shop is the second that yota kakuda has conceived for BAKE, after the designer previously opened an outlet in sendai. partially influenced by the work of acclaimed japanese designer shiro kuramata, the project uses the acrylic surface to make the tarts appear to float on the graduated colorway. the counter is accentuated by the remainder of the store, which takes on a quiet and restrained appearance — allowing the vibrant colors to take center stage.
