austrian company swarovski has recently launched their luxury ‘atelier swarovski home’ brand. zaha hadid participated in launching a sculptural piece for swarovski’s inaugural collection which saw collaborations also with daniel libeskind, fredrikson stallard, ron arad and raw edges. the collection of unique centerpieces and home accessories were created from mixed materials such as marble, metals, and resins together with crystal.

like the others, such as the ‘printed’ crystal collection by raw edges, architect zaha hadid’s imposing ‘crista’ centerpiece highlighted the infinite creative possibilities of crystal in design. the fabrication saw the full use of new technologies developed by swarovski’s experts, including crystal printing, a permanent form of laser – jet print on crystal, and the revolutionary wave cut technique. the form branched from an investigation into the process of crystallization occurring in nature and uses crystal, metal and a combination of wave cut technology to explore the organic ‘growing’ nature the centerpiece embodies.

zaha hadid’s ‘crista’ centerpiece and atelier swarovski home collection will be presented at 2016 new york design week.
