| sit properly ! by thomas bernstrand hello designboom. you asked me to send you pictures and the story of my wembley sofa for your 'designcool' site. so here it is: pictures of different version of the sofa, a picture of my exam work and a picture of me hanging in my swingable chandelier 'do swing' (from droog designs exhibition 'do crate' in milan 2000). I have newly graduated from the department of furniture design at konstfack university college of arts, crafts and design in stockholm. all my furniture I did for my exam work was designed to encourage people to do what we do anyway; like dancing on a table or swinging in a chandelier - with one exception - my furniture is built for it. the Idea with wembley was to make a set of furniture that directs the attention towards the person hanging in 'do swing' or dancing on the danceable table 'studio 54' (both a part of my exam work). It became an arena and therefore it was called wembley. It fitted well in to my exam work but I also believe it works well as a separate furniture for company entrances or galleries. places where you want to sit down for a moment waiting for someone. just like you do when you sit down on public stairs. there is always room for one more and no one can tell you: sit properly! wembley offers no such thing. the first wembley sofa shape was a three step sofa that followed each other in a motion. I then made it in three separate steps. this is the shape it has today. the sofa can be ordered in small quantities from my company bernstrand & co. but I am also looking for a furniture production company to produce it and manufacture it. so if any one is interested they can contact me through my web site, www.bernstrand.com.
