the flowing shape of the viviana pantograph arm is a
contradiction to the traditional two parallel bars found
in most lamps.

the twisted bars of the viviana create a balancing friction
between them. this project is part of my general interest
and involvement getting into the functioning members
and parts of the table lamp, and from its functions or their
mutations the design is 'extracted'.

the source of inspiration has been the classical and unique
virtues of the world's first, original architect luminaire L-1,
design jac jacobsen, 1937, manufactured by luxo
– combined with elements of art!

the near-weightless arm is supported by the design of the
shade, the material combinations offer a choice between
chromium/satin, aluminium grey, chromium/satin with an
anodized shade, or varieties with an opalescent glass shade
– all designed for a 60W incandescent lamp.

luxo
founded by norwegian industrialist jac jacobsen in 1937,
luxo ASA (known as jac jacobsen AS until 1966) pioneered
the development of portable, individually adjustable,
desktop lighting products that employed a unique counterbalanced
arm mechanism. that original task light design, named the luxo
L-1 because of the 'luxurious' quality of its highly directional light,
was an immediate commercial and aesthetic success.
