'me'

'me' is a new brand of issey miyake.
the 'me' are exclusively tops.
they all come in only one size;
they have the particularity to stretch widely,
so it can fits every body.
this unique size gave the opportunity to
developp a new concept of a shop.

'self service' is very popular in japan.
you can find vending machines
for a wide range of products.
issey miyake wanted to translate
the concept of vending machines in
a contemporary fashion statement.
this concept redefines the process
of shopping, with a direct interaction
between customers and products.
in the matsya department store in ginza,
tokyo, in less than 20-square-metres,
the clothes, as a mass product,
is displayed in a vending machine:
already packaged from the factory
in a transparent plastic tube, is displayed
in a transparent machine.
the tubes were designed specifically to
work on this display.
the customers check the shapes on a
hanger, can try it on in a fold-out fitting
cubicle and then select the color
and texture he wants from the machine.
the tube can be taken from the
front of the display, and then automatically
the next tube appears.
no extra package is required, the customers
receive the tube that can be reused later.
the plastic (PET) tube itself, with a large
screw to open one side, is like a mineral
water bottle, transparent with the logo
embossed in the front.
the product is really the main element in
the interior.
