| 'a-poc' ' a-poc ' paris dresses fixed to the wall with magnets, elastic fabricon rolls, stools for shoes and coloured markings for orientation. the customer cuts sleeves and skirts exactly to the length he wants. following the success of issey miyake's 'a-poc' shop in tokyo the designer recently opened a second outlet in paris. both shops rely on a constantly changing, interactive space that makes customers partecipate in the creation of their own garments. miyake held no major briefings, no restrictions, no set budget. carefull to avoid the imposition of visual barriers between out side and inside, the facade is lined with milk-white windows, which do not allow to see through to the interior. the only sign outside is the inscription - 'a-poc'. potential customers step across a line, so to speak and assume roles in a 'kinetic sculpture'. most of the furniture is made of corian: tabletops, display surfaces, hangers and 'assembly-line' rails, surrounding the space and allowing 'pieces' to slide along. it has been machined to form continously flowing soft shapes. cutting tables and ironing boards slip into tabletops, merged together without a visible seam. no hooks, no pegs, no strings are to be seen, because of the use of magnets. the 100-square-metre boutique is a white enviroment. it is a gallery, an atelier, a factory and a shop, design by erwan & ronan bouroullec, 2000 ---
