dim - the wickergames

the imaginary factory is an initiative of designers oliver vogt + hermann weizenegger,
it opened a new era for the blindenanstalt von berlin / institute for the blinds, berlin, germany.

this is the fifth year and DIM has since outgrown its experimental character
katrin schröder, the leader of the wicker workshop, presents now 'wickergames'.
here are some pics of the first prototypes from designers from around the globe.
these models reflect, how playful considerations about a common natural material
and an old traditional handwork can change the way we look at objects.

thanks to all the designers who have donated their abilities and time.
this is a fabulous team effort... and there is more to come in the next future.

more on DIM
upon request, tours of the workshop are regularly extended to include the wicker work
and basket-making areas.
this, in turn, increases recognition and demand for the work.
and all this ensures job security at the blindenanstalt and is instigated by DIM.
since DIM was established, it isn’t just customers from the immediate local area who
visit the blindenanstalt shop with its heavy counters and shelves dating back to the 1920s,
but also new customers from around the world.
they come with a newspaper clipping in their hand or because they saw a recommendation
in a travel guide or the blindenanstalt site on the internet.
they admire what they find there and, more often than not, purchase plenty of DIM products.
DIM has been presented at various fairs such as, for example, the design biennials in
lisbon and kortrijk or in exhibitions in london, milan, new york and tokyo.
