motofashioneast

is london's rebranded fashion east, an established off-schedule
event which has made great progress in helping upcoming
designers gain recognition. motofashioneast is run by lulu kennedy.
it is an old truman brewery project to support emerging talent
in british fashion design.
set up in september 2000, each season it gives 3 winning
designers the chance to present a catwalk collection to the
international press and buyers attending london fashion week.
each designer is given a £5,000 award, free show venue
(catwalk show has been on sunday 16th february 2003 at the
great eastern hotel, london), free show production facilities and PR.
motofashioneast took also part in the momi exhibition at milan
fashion week from 28th february until 3rd march 2003.

roksanda ilincic
since graduating with an MA in womenswear from central
st martins, she has attracted a loyal customer base, including:
björk, liberty ross, and model/musician jo reynolds.
she has exhibited work in her native belgrade as part of the
applied arts biennale in yugoslavia, where she also won first

fabrics usually chosen for eveningwear, combined with her
original folklore sensibility, are typical of her work, and are
mostly wool crepes, chiffon and silks. her new winter collection
is inspired by dolls and sculptures by artist niki de saint phale,
and 50s and 60s sculptures. she introduced a small
knitwear range for the first time, and the overall tone of the
collection is romantic, mystical, settled and calm,
with colours such as dusty blue, grey, beige and dark purple,
punctuated by acid accents. her signature hand-drawn prints,
this time feature birds and horses with her speciality voluptuous
sleeves.

tatty devine
harriet vine and rosie wolfenden set up accessories label
'tatty devine' two years ago after graduating from chelsea
school of art where they studied painting.
'tatty devine' now exists as a shop and gallery in brick lane,
east london.
the idea behind the company is to create designs that
can be worn on a truly individual level. the collections reinterpret
ideas from a variety of surrounding sources: music, interiors,
nostalgic images and memories.
accessories are made from diverse materials such as guitar
plectrums, tape measure prints, rubix cube pieces,
shrunk crisp packets, souvenir key rings and purses
resembling old tape cassettes.

from glasgow school of art in 1999 with a BA in printed textiles,
going on to graduate fromcentral saint martin’s in 2002 with

of engineered prints was based around a combination of
memphis-inspired graphic shapes and pink floyd animation,
subsequently winning him the lancome colour awards 2002.
since graduating, 25 year old Saunders has developed a S/S
2003 collection of prints for a large fashion house and produced
his own debut S/S 2003 collection in italy under the label

using the same printing technique but applied to a harder,
more structured silhouette.

sponsor
motofashioneast landed a major sponsorship deal with motorola:
motorola used the event to launch its new camera phone,
it has equipped motofashioneast's three winning designers,
with the new phone, and they snaped east londoners and
east london fashion, which then formed a flyposter campaign
put up across london. the designers used the phones to create a
visual 'diary', taking pictures of the inspirations for their
designs, where they live and go out, etc.

the motorola T720i

the phone has a large, high resolution graphical colour display
for easy viewing of text, graphics and status icons.
it allows picture messaging, gaming and music. it has been
a great medium for the designers to record their inspiration for
their new collections and also to show their ideas to others.
there has been a dialogue between the designers and the
show producer through MMS (multimedia messaging) and
picture texting. for example the designers were able to call up
the show producer and play tracks from their show music to
the show producer for approval.

---
tim noble and sue webster
the phones were also given to artists tim noble and sue webster,
darlings of the current contemporary british art scene,
to capture the audience at the show :
snaps of the attending fashion crowd - 'gladrags and handbags'
lots of close up of what people are wearing this season
- belts, shoes. hats etc...
