reebok have launched the trainer lounge,
a central london location, to showcase its directional product,
from apparel through to performance and fashion footwear.
the trainer lounge was born out of an idea from creative
consultancy jam, who came up with the concept for a fabulous
space where journalists, stylists, and retailers would be invited to
view great new products from reebok.

reebok appointed design agency jam to realize the idea in a
way that would make a bold statement as to what reebok
and the trainer lounge stands for.
jo lee, youth marketing manager, reebok stated:
'the trainer lounge is a working space.
therefore it has been designed to be a comfortable space to
work in, as well as looking great.' she continued,
'jam were chosen as they had a point of difference over
and above other agencies approached.
we had the confidence in them being able to take on the
concept. it is always welcoming to work with like-minded
individuals and companies who harness creativity and vision
and the ability to deliver.'

the display area was explored as an urban play area. the design uses
handrails like those outside kings cross station to hang clothing and
tennis fencing to display shoes. on the floor - sports tape was used to
create floor markings like those in a basket ball pitch.
the meeting room is an abstraction of a classic american locker room.
blue astroturf lines the floor and walls with clothes displayed in a
number of multimedia scenarios.
the front room is domestic retro - touching on the personality of
reeboks heritage - on old school wallpaper design is actually made from
all their latest collection of trainers.

who is the founder of reebok
the reebok story began in 1895 in bolton.
joseph william foster, an enthusiastic member of his
local running club, the 'bolton primrose harriers',
wanted a pair of spiked running shoes.
making a pair for himself, foster unintentionally
created the first 'foster' running shoe.
enthusiastic reports about the quality of foster's running
shoes quickly circulated and he began to manufacture
for local athletes. this business grew and in 1958 the
family introduced the name reebok (a small fast-running
gazelle). global headquarters are in boston, massachusetts
and the uk head office is in lancaster.
