easy chair history: 1900 - 1930
starting from the late 18th century comfort was now being
seriously studied, and the apparatus of comfort was always
related to the source of heat in rooms.
visible heat has guided the development of easy chairs
- focussed upon the fireplace.

easy chairs were also designed for specific uses, for the library,
as a perfect complement for the cigarette-smoking ('chaise fumeuse').
from grammophone-playing fashionables of the early 1920ies
through the jazz age, the easy chair became the centre of extravagant
lifestyle.
