joe colombo - design of lighting

the ingenious lamp ‘acrilica’ is like a sculpture
standing for itself.
its relation with kinetic experiences is a
‘translation’ of the role of light in art.
it conceals the light source in a metallic base.
the curvature of clear acrylic diffuses light
indirectly and illuminates a table or desk.

colombo had a passion for lamps.
following lights are a selection of colombos’
further designs, some of which are still living
beside us every day.
the flexible lamps ‘spider’, ‘alogena’ and ‘coupe’
for example, are attached on tracks to illuminate
different areas.
his sketches show colombo’s precise way of
developing mechanisms.
