after the success of his mount everest panorama
exhibition ‘8848 everest360°’ in 2003/2004,
yadegar asisi lets ancient rome rise from its ruins -
on a screen area of 3500 square meters (37 square feet).
the 360° panorama depicts november 27 in the year 312,
the day signifies the last day of ancient rome,
when constantine (one of the four joint emperors
in the tetrarchy since the year 306)
had defeated the roman emperor maxentius,
and was parading triumphantly through
the defeated city. surrounded by 35 lengths of cloth
(each 31 x 3,20 meters / 102 x 10,5 feet) of 300 dpi
photographic quality, the viewer is shifted into
the illusion of being part of this day’s spectacle.
accompanying music and sounds, as well as
alternating day and night views make the exhibit
more vivid.

yadegar asisi
born in vienna (1955) to iranian parents, he studied
architecture in dresden (germany) and fine arts in berlin.
initially working as an architect and urban planner
until 1988 - the year he was awarded
the mies van der rohe prize, he began focusing his
on combining perspective drawing with painting.
he has always been fascinated by
painted illusionary space.
asisi is professor for architectural presentation at
the university of applied sciences in berlin (germany)
since 1996.
