the library chair / step chair
- transformers that change modes.

the chair, being the most common piece of
furniture, has inevitably produced many eccentric
designs. presented here are some interesting
examples of chairs that were owned or used by
some of the most famous and influential
people in history.

chairs transform into steps -
you may climb up to select your book and then,
with the same ease as before, turn the steps
back into a chair.
these remarkable pieces of metamorphic furniture
look like a chair, but in fact they convert easily to
library steps with one simple movement.
it would be an ideal piece to have in your library if,
as was often the case in the 18th century,
your library shelves ran from floor to ceiling.

(below you can find also some examples of
transformers you can use in different ways without
changing mode.)
