The Tripolina chair, originally designed by Joseph Beverley Fenby has been my inspiration.
My chief aim was to simplify the structure of sticks and metal connectors by reducing the number of parts to a basic minimum. The resulting geometry is , of course , similar to that other classic the Hardoy, which I guess was also inspired by the Tripolina, but in my design I have attempted to capture the spirit of Fenby’s folding wooden chair.
The simple rectangular sticks are 20 mm square section birch and the 25mm x 25mm stainless steel angle connectors are riveted to the sticks at their extremities. In the collapsed state it is an anonymous bundle, but when the fabric seat cover is sat upon it becomes a robust and stable support.

For the prototype I have used leather faced canvas which makes it suitable for indoors, but canvas or mesh would be an obvious outdoor alternative.

Here is a view of the Tripolina chair which you can compare with my design as submitted.
The main difference is in the way the side members are hinged resulting in 10 members, in my case there are 8 and a much simpler configuration.
Another difference is the way the sling seat is supported by the frame, in my case slung over 4 projecting "fingers"
