INTRODUCTION:

As a kid I was intrigued by the late tv-series of "Transformers", and
this fascination for simple,
but at times almost magical, mechanical principles kept following me
trough childhood, all the way
to adolesence, when I eventually became a designer...
In todays sociëty, the trend is to keep mechanical parts, and
-principles, hidden for the consumers,
and show them a electronic interface instead. As a result of this, the
visual link between form and
function is lost, and in my opinion this is one reason why we're heading
for mindless consumerism
and a loss of mechincal aesthetics in everyday design.


FURNITURE as a STATEMENT:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
My goal was to create this piece of furniture as a statement, in which
the mechanical transformation
from one state to another is essential. This mechanical transformation
[static mobility] should become
a re-occuring, user initiated ritual, which is of added value to the
actual function of this furniture.
The product, user, and their environment become involved in a
confronting interaction to trigger the
users awareness of mechincal aesthetics in design and everyday life.
