results will be published after the milan macef fair, january 21 - 24, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------- MACEF DESIGN AWARD 2005 C A L L - F O R - E N T R I E S designboom and 'MACEF international home show' on-line design competition. participation is open to applicants from every country in the world, to professionals, students, and design-enthusiasts. free registration required. --- 01 - the subject of the international competition is we are looking for your designs for HOME ACCESSORIES that work with the concept of RE-cycling (water, energy, metal, plastics, paper, glass, ...). bring a fresh approach to the tired topic of waste! --- 02 – awards the designers of 4 winning entries will be granted with cash prize awards : - first prize Euro 5000 - the jury will also award 3 honorable mentions (Euro 1500 each) winning entries and a selection of the works sent in will be shown at the next MACEF spring salon (by fiera milano international) which will be held in milan, italy from 21-24 january 2005. the most interesting designs will be presented to companies in the production sector for possible realization. and as always… designboom will publish an exhaustive results report. --- 03 – the jury is composed of gaetano pesce, architect and designer oliviero toscani, photographer elio fiorucci, stylist gilda bojardi, (editor-in-chief interni magazine) nello martini, journalist son of the founder of the MACEF exhibition massimo mini (designboom) --- 04 - theme / explanations RE-think + RE-use: today there is much need for sustainable design. the mantra of - RE-use, RE-duce, and RE-cycle - seeks to minimize negative impacts on the domestic, public and natural environment (including the health and comfort of consumers and producers). effective sustainable design is a complex theme, it requires an integrated, holistic approach. participants are requested to submit their designs and concepts for products that RE-consider waste. entries might focus only on a certain aspect of RE-cycling or RE-use or take into consideration the whole life-cycle, including design, construction, operation and decommissioning. we believe in a ‘learning by doing’ approach - the integration of environmental considerations into product design and development can be done step by step. you only need a few good ideas in a lifetime to contribute. --- 05 - design criteria projects should not be currently in production, previously published or exhibited projects are accepted. --- the jury will award designs and concepts which are innovative in terms of their formal / technological aspects as well as their social relevance. please don't send in vague concepts, but go a step further. works must express the way of manufacturing – craft or industrial. it's not the idea which is the art, it's more the way somebody handles the idea that makes art. --- 06 – registration deadline application registration will be accepted through december 5, 2004. --- 07 - registration registrations are open now, please fill in the form. teams register with one name only - when submitting works you should add all team member’s names. (there is a maximum enrollment, registration may close prior to that deadline) ! register here ! --- 08 - submit your entry / entries whether you're an individual or group, you can submit max.3 works. --- we invite you to use our new on-line publishing system which allows all designers to publish their projects directly on our server, making the jury process faster and more transparent. as the designer, you can publish, verify and modify the lay-out of your page. the new system will allow a larger number of designs to be visible to the designboom public, thus giving designers greater visibility. you will be requested to supply: 1 -up to 3 files (images or a composition of more images) of your project. please note: use only .gif, .jpeg, (72 dpi) max 100 kb each file. image size max 600 (width) x 700 (height) pixels. --- if you are not able to reduce the size of your file please see the tutorial on how reduce the size of your file with photoshop. --- - the original high-resolution image(s) will be requested if your work is selected for the exhibition - 2 - explanation of ideas a brief description of your work.
