hans gugelot biography born on april 1, 1920 as johan (called hans) gugelot in makassar on celebes (indonesia) of dutch nationality. - 1934 the family moves on to davis (switzerland) hans gugelot attends secondary school, graduating in 1940 with the 'matura' (equivalent to A levels). - 1940 takes up studies in lausanne (school of engineering), continues at the ETH zurich, department for architecture. gradiation in 1945/46. - 1946 extensive travels to italy, plays guitar in jazz orchestras. gugelot gets married in 1947. works for a number of architect's offices until 1948. - between 1948 and 1950 gugelot works with max bill, first furniture designs - 1950 gugelot works in his own office, first developments of the furniture programme 'M125', modular cupboard system. - 1954 receives the call to work at the hochschule für gestaltung (HfG) in ulm, irst meeting with erwin braun. - 1955 lecturer of design and later head of the development group of the HfG. formal development of the first new braun products. - between 1955 and 1958 exemplary design of radio, phono and TV products as a system (for braun), that was to influence the entire industry world-wide up the last quarter of the 20th century. - 1956 system furniture 'M 125' improved, manufactured by messrs. wilhelm bofinger. - 1957 braun is awarded the grand prix of the XI. triennale in milan for their complete programme range which goes back to designs by hans gugelot and otl aicher. - 1959 gugelot starts working on the hamburg underground (concluded in 1962). - 1960 exhibition at the museum ulm. - 1961 head of the rektoratskollegium of the HfG (until 1962). - 1962 development of braun logo in the colors silver/black, first shown on shaver 'sixtant'. works for agfa, braun, lumoprint. founded industrial design studio 'institut für produktionsentwicklung nd design e.v.' in neu-ulm. - 1963 concepts e.g. for kodak, girard, weishaupt. - 1964 development of the world's first sports car with self-suspending chassis made of plastic compound. - 1965 on september 10, 1965 hans gugelot dies in ulm. more on hans gugelot http://www.gugelot.de back to the article --- --- ------- monthly designboom newsletter ------- ------- ? comments and contact us ? -------	hans gugelot courtesy guus gugelot hans gugelot courtesy guus gugelot
