gio ponti / ceramic objiects

ponti’s affair with ceramics dated from one of
his earliest jobs. by 1923, the young ponti had
become art director for the ceramics manufacturer
richard-ginori, the relationship lasted up until 1930.
under his artistic direction the link between art
and industry, that today still characterises the
activity of the factory, began.
gio' ponti planned and created ceramic and
porcelain objects that found in the decoration
of the artist a refined uniqueness and innovation.
he was an admirer of the wiener werkstätten.
gio' ponti created more than a simple decoration.
the human figures as well as the chromatic choices
express the artist's intentions to create new
poetic forms.
also in the 1950's ponti designed a series of sinks,
toilets and bathroom fixtures for ideal standard.
ca. 2 decades later he was formulating his design
for the parco dei principi, he was also involved
in design and production of ceramic tiles.
