gio ponti / lamps

gio ponti's work is characterized by grace and clarity.
ponti's style was dominated by an exultant sense of
the aesthetic. the intense colors
- turquoise, red, green,ultramarine and gold -
are those of the period between 1946 and 1950.
his work of the 1950s and 1960s embodies principles
he pursued throughout his career in all areas of design:
the development of finite form, simplified and reduced
to its essential elements; lightness, transparency,
and immateriality - both architecture and objects were
sharpened and stripped of their visual weight.
