rendel & spitz : the gap

---
'once a year we – as an advertising agency –
invite three international designers to use the ground floor
of our office for a joint project.
there are no limitations whatsoever, apart from the architecture
and the chosen theme.'

---
«blossoming gap»
from 13 to 19 january 2003,
there will be an exhibition devoted to the 2003 topic
in the form of a poetic flash of wit.

an urban landscape …
a dream:
you open the door to your office one morning and catch
the scent of the forest.
an entire mature tree has found its way into the rooms
and put down roots.
it even brought a few huge rocks with it.
you set up your camp bed.

'for once again we are making our premises
available to three designers for an exhibition.
on the ground floor of cologne’s narrowest building,
andrea branzi and the brothers ronan and erwan bouroullec
will be presenting a joint project on the theme of the
«blossoming gap»' says martin rendel.

here's a photographic pre-view.

the gap
martin rendel and rené spitz have been using the gap
as an office since early 1999.
the cologne-based architects b&k+ suspended a couple
of concrete floors between neighbours’ walls,
provided a staircase, a certain amount of infrastructure,
and glass facades fitted at the front and rear
– ready it was.
2,56 metres wide, 33 metres long and 6 storeys high.
lean and simple, reduced to the essentials.
'what kind of shop or gallery could you make out of a
space with 20 cmwindow frontage?
we decided to open it to the public at large for one whole
week- during the cologne's international furniture fair.'

---
the agency
'we regard our advertising agency as a distillery.
since 1998, we have been concentrating on the
essentials in the development, profiling and
management of brands.
consulting, strategy and implementation,
with precision in the message and the design.
our work focuses – online and offline –
on corporate design, advertising, information literature,
and public relations.'
