treacy's work is clearly part of the fashion world
but his 'unlikely' sculptures also cross the boundary
into visual art.
'I identify with craftspeople. hatmaking is a craft! he says,
'my favorite artist is picasso. I love his bric-a-brac sculptures.'

this exhibition revealed the process by which treacy's
extravagant and beautiful hats are imagined and made.
it is the first time that the sculptural qualities of these
forms have been explored. his solid wooden blocks of
moulds, which are individually carved and are used as a
base on which the fabric and other material of the hats
are formed, are brought to the public audience.

philip treacy has designed hats for many haute couture
houses such as chanel, givenchy, alexander mc queen,
valentino, helmut lang, thierry mugler, anna molinari and
versace.

treacy recently expanded his vision and millinery collection
with the debut of his accessory line, which includes hair
ornaments, scarves, gloves and bags.
