designer's own words:

Sprang-Capelle, the Netherlands 16-06-2011 Charles Bergmans Design team presents: 3WAYS - a wristwatch concept for Breill The many possibilities that digital devices can offer have raised our expectations: combined functions, customization and sensible, intuitive controls are now the norm. The 3WAYS concept translates these aspects to the analog watch, and brings them together in an innovative yet timeless design. Watches and shoes ‘Timeless’ might be an controversial term when it comes to watches, yet it is something we strive for in everything we make in our studio. Usually we make timeless shoes, which does sound slightly more sensible. Still, we thought it would be very interesting to design a watch that corresponds with the way we design shoes. So please be aware that we are not specifically watchmakers, but mere open minded product designers with a love for watches. What we present here is the outline of a new concept and a collection of interesting ideas, not a fully developed product. The 3WAYS concept The 3WAYS watch is surrounded by a turneable ring we call the control wheel. It floats around the watch without actually touching it. Three spokes go around the back and into the watch. The control wheel allows us to operate the watch with great ease. Simply turn it left or right to set the time and date or even modify the colours of the watch itself using the shift dial. The wheel also protects the watch like an exoskeleton, which allows us to give the watch a beautiful rimless glass top. But all the practical functions aside, the wheel is an elegant feature which gives the watch a whole new appearance: It is protected and free at the same time. We hope will you enjoy this presentation. Yours faithfully, Charles and Sjors Bergmans www.charlesbergmans.com
