designer's own words:

Bamboo furniture is familiar to Thai people for a long time. However, its form and structure are always the same, almost have not been changed. For this reason, this project aims to create new format by using bamboos.
“Doughnut” is an interactive stool, designed for indoor living area. When sitting on it, the flexible woven structure will be slightly flattened and has bouncing effect. This stool is designed to show aesthetics of the nature materials. Therefore, the entire parts of this stool are made from bamboos. The main structure is made by four bamboo rods weaving together. One side of each bamboo rod will be parted into small bars, whereas the other end will become the stool leg. The small bars will be woven together and formed into doughnut shape.
The woven seat was inspired by Thai flexible structure called “Sum-Kai”. Sum-Kai (kitchen’s coop) is made from woven bamboo structure which turns tension force in bamboo fiber to 3-d structure. This technique shows the remarkable advantages of bamboos.
The joint between seat and legs is strengthened by curved steel rods piercing inside to prevent bamboo legs from tearing apart. At the end of 4 legs are covered by injection pastel hoses to increase friction. This makes bamboo legs more rigid and prevents scratches on the floor.
