designer's own words:

the 'economy disco light' is bought as a kit which the host can quickly and easily put together and attach to any household light fitting. aimed at the student market, this light provides a disco feel to any house party at a cheap price. its double spinning shade throws light about the room just like an expensive disco ball. an intergrated solar panel is mounted under the lightbulb, powering a motor which spins the outer light shade. the holes in the outer shade let the light escape when they are lined up with the inner shade, creating a flashing spiral pattern on the ceiling and walls. simply switch on the room light to start the party light and let the dancing begin!
