designer's own words:

Floratile is a three dimensional tiling system for interior applications. Our goal is to merge the decorative aspects of tiling with a highly sculptural and modular wall system. Floratile can have relief on one or two sides depending on its applications. The panels will be one-sided when used in perimeter and ceiling applications or two-sided when used as space dividers. Unlike traditional flat tiles the organic patterns of Floratile will change throughout the day. For as the light in the room changes so will the shadows on the panels. Floratile panels are designed and fabricated using time-based animation software and Computer Numerically Controlled fabrication techniques (CNC milling). There are three principal advantages in using this technology: 1. Variation: Each Floratile is made of smaller components—cells that grow and shrink according to their own internal logic. The combination of the various states of these cells creates highly varied panels for very little additional effort or cost. 2. Field application: While each individual Floratile has its own logic, the normative aspect of the square panel (40x40cm) allows it to be installed as a continuous surface. 3. Composite quality: Each Floratile finds its spatial and functional potential in its pockets of space that can be used to contain applications such as acoustical material, lighting or wiring.
