“Live-with-Birds” is a design dreaming of a city where human beings and nature can coexist in harmony.
Number of birds in Korea is decreasing, because developments including industrialization and urbanization deprived the birds of their habitats.
Children can watch chickadees living in their comfortable shelters through transparent windows, which experience will help them to realize the important fact that human beings and nature can live together.
designer's own words:
Concrete buildings standing densely in each and every city mean shelters to human beings, but the same buildings mean lost habitats to animals in a sense. “Live-with-Birds” is a design dreaming of a city where human beings and nature can coexist in harmony. “Live-with-Birds” is an idea of allowing for both man and nature by yielding some space of building walls to birds which are deprived of shelter.
“Live-with-Birds” designed a wall of apartment building as comfortable shelters for chickadees in order to rebuild an environment where human beings and nature can live together in harmony. Live-with-Birds” intended to make concrete buildings melt into part of mature based on the motif of wood.

In Europe, sparrows decreased by 62% in recent 25 years, whereas the birds in Korea decreased by 44% in recent 8 years. Swallows also declined 10% for the past 10 years. That might be because developments including industrialization and urbanization deprived the birds of their habitats and even place to make their shelters. As a Korea’s national monument, common kestrels nesting in apartment ventilation tunnel, signboards of high-rise buildings, etc. make us saddened.
Children can watch chickadees living in their comfortable shelters through transparent windows, which experience will help them to realize the important fact that human beings and nature can live together. On the other hand, chickadees catch a lot of harmful insects around, which might be another good point to apartment dwellers.
Chickadees are our resident birds which are easily to be found around urban parks across the nation. As they like man-made shelters, too, they tend to nest and bring up young in those man-made shelters whose size is appropriate to them. However, the fact is that even forests or open pieces of land to make such shelters are disappearing.
Live-with-Birds” suggests beginning with making space where chickadees and people can live together, and further attempting to actively rebuild environment where human beings and nature can coexist in harmony.
It is design for coexistence between human beings and birds, furthermore all living creatures.
