designer's own words:

The measuring safety cap is an attachment to the existing style of detergent and cleaning solution bottles. It is conceived for large detergent bottles but can be adapted to fit any fluid dispensing container. There were three main topics that this design addresses. Inexpensive to manufacture-This design is meant to be part of the infrastructure that already exists by adapting to any liquid dispensing container. It threads onto the existing bottles and does not occupy any more space that the current cap. By duplicating parts this system is made to be simple, congruent and modular. Measurement- The new system allows precise control of how much liquid the user is pouring. The transparent cap allows for greater visibility of the liquid and gradations. This has two main advantages: the environmental impact of overusing detergents and cleaners is diminished, and the user will be able to use proper dosages and therefore extend the life of the product by not using so much solution at any one time. Child Safety- the cap elevates the level of manipulation above the mental capability of small children. The bright inviting colors of the products do not lend themselves to imparting the danger involved with chemicals. The valves allow seamless use of the product while providing an adequate safety barrier.
