designer's own words:

Sanitary conditions of public toilets is a means to judge the overall quality of a city. In other words, to attract more tourists and to take off as an international hub of industry, the city should take more interest in the issue. As a result of survey of Real Meter (Korea, 2008), about half of Korean men answered that they urinate ‘always’ standing (when they use a toilet). When men are urinating while standing on their two feet, filth is stained on the top and side of the bowl. This can lead to sanitary problem (like bad smell and stains). This will profoundly affect the quality of life for the citizens and, by extension, for all of tourists as well. For that reason, this study suggests new self–cleaning toilet that can solve the problems which appear through the survey. It can help Seoul city to be a world-class city.
