19 pots

“19 POTS” Design – Nir Meiri The 19 pots project began, like many of my previous works, by carefully observing my surroundings. This time I was examining rural landscape. Building on my wish to protect the environment, I decided to recycle existing objects found on the ground – disposable plant pots. The product designed is therefore a lamp made of disposable pots lampshades, which maintains the trinity of concept, aesthetics and functionality. A number of factors guided my choice of the appropriate pots: shape, material and purpose. The delicate and geometric form of the chosen pot contributed to the consolidation of the design. The pot’s material is heat-resistant and the drainage holes at the bottom, usually used to drain water, serve to discharge heat. The inside of the pots was painted in gold in order to enhance the light’s reflection and evoke a luxurious feeling. The 19 pots light fixtures are currently on display at the Paradigma Design Gallery in Tel Aviv as part of the “Gold Mine” exhibition. The exhibition is open until July 8th 2011. Measurements: Diameter 60 cm, Length 100 cm
