box 1-7 is a modular shelf made of seven identical boxes of different sizes. the boxes are combined with seven ropes of different lengths which allows them to hang from a single nail on the wall. according to kuivamäki, the inspiration came from a variety of artists and movements, including the suprematism of malevich, the neoplasticism of mondrian, the minimalism of donald judd. as a hanging shelf, the different sizes of the boxes and the different lengths of the ropes offer countless ways to arrange and rearrange box 1-7 on the wall. indeed, the fact that you can hang this shelf from a wall is what makes box 1-7 different from any other shelf on the market. it adapts to the changing needs and to the changing moods of its user. box 1-7 can also be thought of as a storage unit consisting of seven empty boxes: they can be stacked in any way and filled with anything worthy of being stored in a box. given its aesthetics, box 1-7 also becomes a sculpture in the hands of its owner, a beautiful piece of art. a modular shelf to hang on the wall? Seven storage boxes of different sizes? a sculpture for your living room? box 1-7 is whatever you want it to be. at the same time box 1-7 is surprisingly easy to carry and move around.disassembled it takes up less than 10 cubic inches, it can even be transported on a motorcycle.
