public act #2, open bricolage,  pigneto, rome

kiui is a kit for instant urban interaction. it is an open research laboratory created by orizzontale and funded with support from the european commission through youth in action programme. kiui gazes over the city, focusing on those in-between spaces that compound the urban image, which the eye normally doesn’t see. these territories of the urban subconscious become resources and starting points for a new view of the city, helping the inhabitants to become aware of his own means and of his own spaces. kiui loves wastes, both material and immaterial, both small- and large-scale, but most of all it loves people who know how to restart a cycle from scraps, turning a linear process into a circular one.

kiui aims to create a network supporting the sharing of techniques and experiences. its target is to sum up all this knowledge in a kit for instant urban interaction, which should support the birth of new groups and new pojects, focusing on the phases and the goals of a urban reactivation process. kiui starts with sharing, leads to spreading, but ultimately wants to create a more tangible sign: after three public acts dedicated to different urban reactivation models, a workshop will be held, in which participants ideas and experience will concur in the construction of a playground accessible for everybody. orizzontale is a rome-based collective, focused on urban action that help to redefine the heterogeneous fields that compound the public areas of the city. its main research theme is the reactivation process of the city waste, in terms of spaces, materials and ideas. orizzontale intends to react to the idea of privatization that covers the public space through a diy mode of creating new and self-organised common urban spaces. more info on www.kiuiproject.eu/open-bricolage
