floor lamp egon by madeleine cordier

this floor lamp of berlin-based design student madeleine cordier remembers to be a character at the first sight. madeleine” main interest in her studies is the examination of how products become like caracters for us. we are surrounded by thousands of producs. some we do just use, others speak to us like humans. the floor lamp ‘egon’ is an object that remembers to be a character at the first sight. the proportions of lamp shade and lamp stand let the lamp look like a person with a big head. the fact that you have to interact with the lamp to use it enforces the character-character of the product: to change the position of the lamp shade you pull its cable – like pulling the string of an agible doll. through wrapping the cable around the lamp stand you adjust your required position. egon is made out of bended steel wire. this material contrasts the lamp shade out of plain cardboard. the floor lamp was exhibited at DMY design festival berlin 2011.
